Thrown to the Wolves

I've got so much to update about from the summer. It's been a great time. We spent about a week and a half completing a grand tour of the Midwest. My parents came to visit for about a week. Julia has grown and done so much including her first swim. I've LOVED being home all day with her. I'll get to all of that really soon. But first we're going to talk about Monday.

Monday night I sent in my application to Falcon School District 49. (The boundary for the school district start about a mile from our house.) They had a .5 math teacher position open. Tuesday afternoon I got a phone call to set up and interview for Wednesday. On Wednesday I went in for my interview. When I got there, I was told that the assistant principal (AP) was in an interview. At the conclusion of that interview the AP, principal, and interviewer appeared from around the corner. The interviewer left and I went in. After a few questions they told me I could relax. I laughed and said, "wow it's really that obvious." After the interview with the AP and 2 math teachers I was told to wait in the lobby. 15 minutes later the principal came to talk to me. After talking to him, he told me "if the committee says what I think they're going to say you'll be getting a phone call from HR either tomorrow or Friday." I got a phone call Thursday morning.

I spent the day today trying to get my feet wet. I spent an hour at HR, where they gave me my own laptop! Then it was on to the school where I spent most of the day wandering around trying to figure stuff out. I will be teaching Beginning Algebra (in other words, Pre-Algebra) and Algebra 1. (Another year of freshman) They teach Algebra 1 VERY differently than I've ever seen. They have no textbook or resources for Beginning Algebra. Oh and did I mention that school started 3 weeks ago! YIKES!!

I'm now apart of the Wolves of Vista Ridge High School and on Monday I will be (literally and figuratively) thrown to the wolves.
