We wandered over to the Draft Horse Pull. We didn't stay long because there was an issue with the ground ... and the weight .... and they were fixing something ... and it was taking a really long time. (Sorry for the lack of details. You're talking to a city girl.) But we did take a picture with these pretty horses.
We tried to watch the noon (actually 12:30) gunfight, but as soon as the first shot went off, Julia declared it was too loud and cried until we walked away. So I have no pictures but it looked like it was going to be a fun show. As we headed to get lunch, we walked through the poultry barn. They had the cutest ducks I've ever seen, but Micah wouldn't let me take one home. There were also white turkeys. I didn't know there were such a thing as all white turkeys and these boys were huge! There were also the weirdest chickens I have ever seen. A few had hairdos that resembled a poodle's head and another was so fluffy that I really wanted to pet it, but restrained as the rooster next to me crowed and gave me the side eye as if he knew what I was thinking. I wish we took pictures of them. I never knew chickens were so interesting.
We got to the food tent, where Texas Roadhouse was giving away free BBQ to the entire fair! It was so good. Best pulled pork I've had in a long time and of course they served their fabulous rolls with it. The propane company that was sponsoring the event also had a photo booth free of charge and a coloring contest to keep Julia busy while we ate. (When we get the picture scanned, I'll let you know.) We stayed a bit after lunch to hear a few songs from the Flying W Wranglers so we can now say we've seen them in concert. [side note: The Flying W Wranglers are the singing cowboy group that performed at the Flying W Ranch before it burned down in the Waldo Canyon Fire two years ago. They're making slow progress on rebuilding the ranch. It was a big tourist draw and famous part of Colorado Springs.]
The rest of the fair had a monkey show with famous monkeys and other animals. The first monkey, Mickey (pictured below), was last in Rock of Ages with Tom Cruise. He also starred in The Rundown with The Rock, or whatever he goes by now.
There was a car show complete with a Model T wooden taxi. Micah walked around and looked at the cars while Julia took me to an exotic petting zoo. She got to pet some not as exotic animals like fainting goats and a little calf (it was so cute!) and some more exotic ones like kangaroos and something with horns.
With the tokens we bought Julia her first carnival rides. She rode on a circus train, a dinosaur, and a motorcycle. With the leftover tokens we bought a Sno Cone for each of us. It was Julia's first (cherry) and even Mariella enjoyed a bit of it. In fact, she got quite mad when I didn't share.
It was all too much fun for Mariella and she passed out for a while.
We had a wonderful day!
